Katla Satyanarayana ("Satya")
Leading on-board Open Radio Unit (O-RU) design for 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (5G-NTN). Former Senior Staff Engineer at ALL.SPACE & InterDigital. Co-author of 20+ peer-reviewed papers and co-inventor of ~20 patent applications across 5G NR, mmWave/THz, and satellite communications.
👤 About Me & Background
Satyanarayana, who goes by the moniker Satya, was born on May 4, 1992 in Karimnagar district, Telangana, India. He spent most of his early years in Hyderabad, popularly known as the ‘City of Pearls’. After completing his schooling at Neo Royal High School, his intellectual journey took flight at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 2014. While his high school years were steeped in computer science, his fascination steadily gravitated toward the rich mathematical beauty of wireless communication and statistical signal processing.
Following graduation, Satya worked as a Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (July 2014 – August 2015), diving deep into advanced wireless transceiver design. He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his Ph.D. in Wireless Communications at the University of Southampton, conducted in close research liaison with InterDigital Europe, London (conferred in 2019).
From November 2019 to July 2022, Satya was at InterDigital, where he led multiple fundamental inventions and standardisation contributions hinged on 3GPP Release 18/18+ and IEEE 802.11bf (WLAN Sensing). During this time, he co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed papers and contributed to approximately 20 patent applications focused on 5G New Radio (5G NR).
Between July 2022 and May 2025, Satya served as a Senior Staff Engineer at ALL.SPACE, spearheading channel modelling and real-time digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms implemented in software-defined radios and digital hardware for multi-beam satellite ground terminals operating across Ku and Ka frequency bands.
Currently, Satya is leading the Software-Defined Radio (SDR) design at MDA Space, specifically architecting the Open Radio Unit (O-RU) of the on-board processor for 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (5G-NTN).
